The honest fine print, before you ask.
Is this allowed by the apps I clone?
MacDupl only duplicates apps that are already installed on your Mac, locally, for your own use — nothing is redistributed or modified on any server. Some services have their own rules about multiple simultaneous accounts, so it’s your responsibility to comply with the terms of the apps you clone.
What happens when the original app updates?
Clones stay up to date with the original — sessions intact. MacDupl notices when the original’s version has changed and regenerates the clone from it automatically, both when MacDupl starts and when you hit Launch, keeping your login and data. One gap: opening a clone straight from the Dock or Spotlight while MacDupl isn’t running starts the older copy, which refreshes the next time MacDupl runs. The optional “Keep MacDupl running in the background” setting closes that gap.
Why does a clone ask for microphone / screen permissions again?
Because each clone is a genuinely separate app in macOS’s eyes, the system asks for permissions once per clone. That’s the flip side of real isolation — the same mechanism that keeps your accounts from leaking into each other.
Does it work with App Store apps?
Sandboxed App Store apps — like WhatsApp and Microsoft Office — can’t be cloned: their data lives in a shared container a copy would still read, so MacDupl hides them rather than hand you a broken clone. Everything outside the sandbox — Electron apps, Chromium browsers and the Firefox family, where multi-account pain is worst — is fully supported. Tip: to run two WhatsApp accounts, clone your browser and open web.whatsapp.com in each.
Is any of my data sent anywhere?
No. MacDupl has no telemetry and no analytics. The only network requests it ever makes are validating your license key and checking for app updates.
How much disk space do clones use?
Almost none. Clones are APFS copy-on-write duplicates that share their disk blocks with the original app. Only each instance’s own data (logins, cache) takes real space.
What happens after the 7-day free trial?
You keep using MacDupl for free with one clone — no interruption, no data loss. The clone you already created continues to work, and you can still manage it. If you want more than one clone, just buy the $19 Pro license. The “Add clone” button stays clickable and will show a prompt to upgrade.
Can I try Pro before buying?
